high mileage and have 86K on the odo. Unless your car has excessive bearing clearance the 10w 40 is not necessary. As far as syn oil you want to be sure the seals are not presently leaking because the syn oil will clean any buildup behind the seals and leakage could occur that may or may not go away. Syn oil will soften the seals somewhat but it is speculative if the leakaqe will go away. If the engine has excessive mileage I would stick with the non syn.
